{From July 2023 “Gold, Black Gold, and the Race for Guyana’s Indigenous Lands,”  webinar about RFUS’s work in Guyana.)  ....... we learned so much from RAIN FOREST US’s Senior Geographer, Cameron Ellis, and Legal & Advocacy Advisor for the Guyana program, Katie Wightman:

Every drop of rain that falls in the Amazon was carried there by an “atmospheric river” over Guyana—so the whole health of the Amazon depends on protecting the forests of Guyana.

87% of Guyana is covered in trees, but unfortunately, oil       and gold mining are growing rapidly.

RFUS supports democratically-elected District Councils of Indigenous communities to advocate to the government for their land rights so they can protect the integrity of their forests.

This includes mapping land that belongs to Indigenous        people and helping to make claims to government                agencies.

It also includes training Indigenous community members    to advocate for the legal rights of their land and                      their neighbors on a hyperlocal level.
Forest monitoring technology and training enables                communities to expose and report deforestation                and shut it down.

Beggar For Your Love is a classic light rock song written by Wyndi S. Harp.  So Much Depends is a thoughtful, tender love song ballad also written by Wyndi.  Recorded & performed by David Hughes at Avalon Sound Studio.

"If you want to see the world’s climate changing, fly over a tropical country. Thirty years ago, a wide belt of rainforest circled the earth, covering much of Latin America, south-east Asia and Africa. Today, it is being rapidly replaced by great swathes of palm oil trees and rubber plantations, land cleared for cattle grazing, soya farming, expanding cities, dams and logging."    The Guardian  Feb. 2018

"We are destroying rainforests so quickly they may be gone in 100 years."  John Vidal  the Guardian's environment editor

In 1994 I worked as a single music act  with Logan Swords' Sound Enterprise Booking Agency providing the venues in the Tarrant County, Texas area.  This is a promo photo with a DJ setup I used to obtain bookings to help fill in the gaps between music performances and studio jobs.  Sound system and music was provided for weddings, receptions, private & company parties, etc.         drh

My old school 24 Track digital Personal Recording Process
Use Power Tracks recording MIDI app on Laptop to record click track, electric piano, midi bass, Alesis SR16 electronic drums, synthesized string, brass, and other midi instrument tracks.
Use midi synth modules and keyboards to playback all instrumental tracks from laptop & record direct to separate tracks of Alesis HD24.
Playback HD24 tracks through Behringer SX4882 24X8X2 analog mixer and record vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, rhythm instruments and any other acoustic based sounds onto remaining HD24 tracks.  I mostly use Neumann, MXL, Shure and EV microphones, condensers and dynamics, through ART MPA PRO II Mic Preamp.
Mixdown to Alesis Masterlink through Joe Meek compressor/stereo expander and Aphex Aural Exciter. Effects used are usually Yamaha Rev500 Reverb and MuliIvox Multi Echo.  I monitor by alternating mix through KRK Rokit 5" speakers, M-Audio 8" speakers and Koss portaPro headphones.

THE TEXAS TWISTERS

I was fortunate to have been in a school district that had outstanding bands led by music directors John R. Bain, Brewer Jr. High and Harold Collyer, Brewer High.  Together they developed the White Settlement Tx schools' music programs into a national awards winning high school band in the 1960's and that tradition is still carried on today.  The Texas Twisters group was the first combo formed by David Hughes along with several other members of the Brewer Jr. High School Band at White Settlement, Tx in 1964.  It was a total group effort that was enjoyed by all the members for good and fun times.  They performed mostly 50's popular music at local school and community functions but were not part of any official school program.  Uniforms were custom turquoise vests (made by member Dwain Barker's mother), western tie with Texas on it, white shirt and pants.     (see photo to left)

L-R back: Larry Tidwell on Sousaphone (later with The Outlanders on Bass Guitar), David Hughes (later in the Outlanders on guitar)  & Gary Reese on Trumpet, Gary Otwell on Baritone (later in the Outlanders on drums)  and John Boshers on Drums.  Middle: Dwain Barker, Gerald Richardson and Mike Williams on Trombone.  Front: Tommy Flanagan and Gene Parish on Saxophone.        drh
